Bindaas  Social Ventures is focused on establishing a continuum of support from Social Services to job creation culminating in planned matriculation and of program participants to private sector employers (partners).

The Project

BSV will create community based facilities in partnership with local organizations and community leaders.   BSV will establish collaborative efforts with community partnerships to provide support services and training for participants who will graduate to entry level digital work jobs.  The work offered via the is in providing digital services primarily to for-profit businesses.  It is estimated that for-profit businesses located in East Africa, greater Europe, the US and Canada will comprise the majority of our customer base. Customers of the facility will vary from publishers and web orientated content sites to nongovernmental organizations such as development agencies and universities and government agencies.

As a charitable organization, the majority of our activities will be directed toward the social services and support of the targeted population.  The design of BSV will enable the trained workers to matriculate from our subsidized facility to better paying private sector jobs within the same industry.

Who will be served

BSV will create long term employment opportunities for the poor and marginalized populations in the urban communities of Nairobi.   Nairobi has 12 significant ‘slum’ areas and over four million marginalized and urban poor.  For example, Kibera is one of the largest urban slums in the world with severe unemployment and social ills affecting the ability of its residents to escape the cycle of poverty.  Kibera was chosen as an initial site due to the proximity and proliferation of available NGO partners, English language skills, and for the available resources to help better understand and improve upon our work prior to replication in other areas of the world.  Our plans include deep community impact, education programs, life skills, job creation and private sector matriculation of trained individuals to better paying jobs.

Program Benefits

BSV will create a digital employment facilities within the communities in which we serve that, at capacity, will employ up to 400 individuals in total.  The facilities will provide (directly and through partnerships) access to health care, life skills coaching, hot meals, sanitary bathing facilities, child care, tutoring for youth in school and children of employees, access to additional education for employees and students of employees, training on savings and long term planning as well as other programs identified as essential to the long term success and matriculation of our participants.
